Summer Job search continued
My run for a job at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival has ended: /"You were a very close second to someone with prior Pillow experience."/ says David Chapman, the current Director of Operations.
Ah, well, maybe next year.
I have been interviewed for the Master Electrician position at Berkshire Theatre Festival. That happened without notice over the phone yesterday. It's less pay, room but no board (food), requires a car to get back and forth from housing, no computer or printer in the office, a small staff (1 assistant and 3 interns), dealing with two theater spaces and 8 shows with varying budgets, and an intensive changeover schedule that starts with an overnight work shift that allows the Theatre not to have any dark weekends. They're ready to offer me a contract, I'm asking them to accomodate having husband and cat along with if possible.
I'd love to hear from more companies. I've only been contacted by 2 of the 14 applications I've sent out.
Our apartment lease has come up for renewal. Our rent would go up from $1000/month to the "good deal" rate of $1350/month. We said "no way". We can't afford that much, especially since we're still digging out of the credit card hole from all the moving expenses, and we need to save up for the next big thing, whatever that may be (move again, get a house, more trips, etc). So, within the week, the apartment has been shown to two groups of grad students. And on Friday, one group said "we'll take it" for the grand price of $1700/month. (Yikes!!)
So come May 31st, we have to be out of this beautiful apartment. So sad.
Still considering renewing the Yale job (yes, still). I leaning more toward staying at Yale 'cause my co-worker says that it looks better on the resume to have been at a place for more than a year. Plus, in spite of the fustrations, I am learning to be more familiar with the equipment and with guiding grad students. But I am keeping my eyes open (thanks to free access to ArtSearch via Yale). I've seen three year-round Assistant Master Electrician/Board Operator positions open up accross the country, in Houston, Washington DC, and Orange County, all in one month.
So many possibilities. Just 'cause I stopped freelancing, doesn't mean life or its choices get any easier.
Drop me a line, card, email, phone call, postcard, bomb, even just a comment on this post; let me know what you think.
thanks.

Come home to the bay area, so I have someone to hang out when I come back to the bay area for vacation.
