The Doldrums of Maintenance

It's been a slow couple of weeks here, now that another show is open and the next three shows are in meetings. Lot of "Maintenance and Repair" work on the list while my boss is out on paternity leave. Talk about dull work - blowing out dimmer cards, being forced to organize that cable rack no one wants to touch 'cause the boss doesn't want to toss much but there's no room to keep it all, sorting old files into the lighting archives, and having to figure out what else is there to do once the list is mostly done. I've been down in the dumps cause it's not the work I like.
But I've also had to be more involved with the students and doing things with them that my boss usually does, such as checking budgets for a show in January, reviewing plots with MEs for the next Rep show (that's not mine by the way, it's my co-worker's), pushing the ME of the current Rep show on planning for strike, figuring out how to fill in for sick students on shows while still keeping within my weekly hours limit, and answering questions from all comers. I like the 'being needed' part, but I would like to know I'm doing it right. It's kinda nerve-racking 'cause I don't wanna be on the boss's bad side as soon as he get's back but I also wanna show that I can handle this.
But I can't really vent about this to the students, and hubby doesn't really get it, and co-worker and I talk, but I don't really wanna show a weak side to him. Am I happy? I'm not sure.
