The Call

At 2:07pm yesterday, I received the call from Yale University's Human Resources Department. They've offered me the job, and I've accepted it.

We went thru the list of benefits which include medical, dental, vacation and sick and Holidays for pay, Pension plan, tuition reimbursement, and on and on. Finally we get to Pay. Pay is hourly and starts at a certain stage based on previous experience. I have six more years of professional experience than they originally specified in the job requirements. So I get to start at the top of the pay scale as an external hire for the position, which will be a similar pay to what I receive here. What amused me the most is the scheduled pay increases that were included in the university union contract, which are applied on the average of $0.40 an hour every six months! And I already know I'll be getting a certain amount of Overtime over the year.

My official start date at Yale will be Monday, October 10. I'll be at Cal Shakes until Tempest opens on Saturday, October 1. I hope to be on a flight to New Haven by Tuesday, October 4 so I'll have time to find an apartment and settle in by the time I start.

But the final word is - I'm going to Yale!
